This is to share my own journey of having been diagnosed with a Tinnitus ( ringing in my ear ) that was , apparently caused by a cold. Of course when you discover that you hear a sort of ringing in your ear that is not caused by anything external, you go to a GP and investigate what might be the cause of it. To keep it short, I went to three different GP’s until I found a practitioner who was comfortable to admit that he did not know what caused the constant ringing in my ear and referred me to an ENT – Specialist. The ENT send me, after investigating to do a hearing test, as he assumed that I had hearing loss and that my ear creates the ringing to make up for the missing background noise, hence I should make the tinnitus ‘ my friend’ and it may or it may not subside . Needless to say that I don’t appreciate friends that create a constant ringing in my ear, so I disregarded the ENT’s suggestion! The hearing test, however confirmed NO hearing loss what so ever. My hearing was excellent. Back to theENT, following up my hearing test left me with a feeling that he did not know what the tinnitus was caused by and whether it would ever go away. Now I know that this sort of tinnitus is common and very frequently the cause and future is very hard to determine.
My concern was, however that I was left to my own to investigate what other allied health practitioner could help me to get rid of my ‘ new not welcomed friend ‘. The ENT was not able to prompt me in any direction.
After investigating, I found a combination of the following to be of great help and am happy to report that the ringing has subsided to about 10% within 4 weeks.
So here it is: Hypnotherapy ( of course )/ Osteopathy and Chinese herbs and acupuncture.
These therapeutic treatments made a significant difference to my health! We should use them more.
